Prepare for your data interview
A short, practical path from application to offer. Follow the steps, then work through the guides below.
1.Practice standard interview questions
Almost every interview opens with the same handful of questions, whatever the role. Prepare short, honest answers and say them out loud until they feel natural.
- Tell me about yourself.
- What is your greatest weakness?
- Describe a time you failed and what you learned.
- Why are you a good fit for this role?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
2.Research the company
Interviewers notice when you understand their business. Spend an hour before each interview on what the company does, who its customers are and how data supports that work.
Read the job description line by line and match each requirement to something you have done. Prepare two or three questions of your own about the team and its data.
3.Practice technical questions
Most data roles include a technical test or a take-home task. SQL comes up most often, followed by Python, Excel and a BI tool such as Power BI or Tableau.
Practice under time pressure, explain your thinking as you go, and review every mistake. The guides below walk through real examples.
